General Project Description

The City of Benicia is soliciting proposals for livestock grazing services to manage vegetation in 27 designated open space areas, focusing on the Wildland Urban Interface, to mitigate fire risk. The project requires the use of grazing livestock (preferably goats) to reduce and maintain vegetation height at four inches or less within 0-50 feet of private property lines surrounding the open spaces. The consultant must use portable fencing to contain the livestock and prevent trespassing. All areas must meet the vegetation height requirement by June 30, 2026. Should additional growth occur, the consultant is responsible for revisits at their own expense. If livestock cannot effectively manage vegetation in an area, the consultant must use alternative mechanical methods such as discing, flail mowing, or handwork. The consultant will operate under the direction of the Fire Chief, ensuring optimal distribution of grazing animals and preventing overgrazing.
