General Project Description

This project involves the construction of a vehicle turnout lane on State Highway 4 in Calaveras County. The scope includes roadway excavation, shoulder backing, and placement of Class 2 aggregate base and hot mix asphalt (Type A). Key elements also include cold planing asphalt concrete pavement, installation of 6" perforated and non-perforated plastic pipe underdrains with Class 3 permeable material and filter fabric, and comprehensive temporary and permanent traffic control measures. Temporary traffic control includes temporary traffic stripe, channelizers, barrier systems, crash cushions, and portable changeable message signs. Water pollution control and temporary erosion control (blankets, hydraulic mulch, fiber roll, concrete washout) are required. The project also involves clearing and grubbing, job site management, removal of yellow painted traffic stripe (hazardous waste), and installation of new painted traffic stripes, roadside signs (single sheet aluminum signs), and 12" asphalt concrete rumble strips. Mobility will also be required for the project.
