California State Dept of Transportation (CalTrans) is seeking bids from qualified and interested contractors for the following project titled, State Highway Roundabout Construction in Kings County near Kettleman City (0.1 Mile South to 0.2 Mile North of Bernard Drive), identified under Solicitation ID: 06-0X9504. Work is to be performed near Kettleman City, CA 93239, USA in Kings County.
General Project Description
This project involves the construction of a double lane Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (JPCP) roundabout on State Highway in Kings County near Kettleman City. The scope includes establishing lead compliance, dispute resolution advising, and comprehensive job site management. Extensive traffic control measures are required, including construction area signs, temporary traffic striping and pavement markings, barricades, traffic drums, temporary pavement markers, temporary barrier systems, crash cushions, temporary traffic screens, radar speed feedback signs, temporary pedestrian access routes, and portable changeable message signs. Earthwork is a significant component, encompassing temporary hydroseeding, drainage inlet protection, fiber roll installation, temporary construction entrances, street sweeping, concrete washout facilities, management of treated wood waste, biological mitigation, clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation, imported borrow, and rock blanket installation. Infrastructure improvements involve concrete curbing and edging, installation of 8-inch corrugated high-density polyethylene pipe conduit, a 6-inch PVC DR-14 305 PSI pipe, 6-inch butterfly valves, and Type "B" blowoff valves. Pavement work includes Class 2 aggregate base, hot mix asphalt (Type A and minor), hot mix asphalt dike placement, tack coat application, removal of asphalt concrete dike, cold planing of asphalt concrete pavement, and new jointed plain concrete pavement (including colored and textured). Drainage structures involve structural concrete for drainage inlets, removal of retaining walls, installation of 24-inch reinforced concrete pipe and flared end sections, and removal of culverts, pipes, and inlets. Additional items include rock slope protection and fabric, detectable warning surfaces, minor concrete (miscellaneous, exposed aggregate, and brushed), and pre/post construction surveys. Signage work specifies miscellaneous iron and steel, removal and furnishing of pavement markers, delineators, object markers, roadside signs, and laminated panel signs, with various installation methods. Traffic striping and pavement markings (thermoplastic and removal) are also detailed. Electrical and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) work comprises lighting systems, traffic monitoring station systems, rectangular rapid flashing beacon systems, camera systems, and temporary signal systems, along with the removal of existing signal and lighting systems. The project will also integrate Kettleman City Community Services District (KCCSD) water main relocation work according to KCCSD specifications and plans. Environmental protective measures are specified for archaeological monitoring and protection of regulated species, such as the San Joaquin Kit Fox, and management of hazardous waste residue from traffic stripe removal.
