Unofficial Notice of Invitation to Bid (NIB)

La Canada Unified School District is seeking bids from qualified and interested contractors for the following project titled, FOOTHILL BOULEVARD STREET REMEDIATION PROJECT BETWEEN EL CAMINO CORTO AND CYPRESS DRIVE PHASE 1 – SLEEVING OF STREET TUNNEL AND 48” CMP STORM DRAIN, identified under Solicitation ID: 24/25-08. Work is to be performed near 1700 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011, USA in Los Angeles County.

General Project Description

This project, Phase 1 of the Foothill Boulevard Street Remediation, involves the repair of an existing Arch Storm Drain Tunnel under Foothill Boulevard and a 48-inch Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) storm drain below the Lutheran Church in the Foothills parking lot. The scope includes excavating and constructing a jacking pit, jacking 30-inch High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe into the existing storm drain systems for reinforcement, constructing new concrete outlet structures and manhole stacks, backfilling, removing portions of shoring systems, and other related clean-up and restoration work, including asphalt overlay in the church parking lot. Site surveying, shoring design, and traffic control are also part of the required work.

  • Quantity: 135  Unit: LF  Work Item: Furnish 30” ID (32” OD) AASHTO M326 pipe sections fitted with mechanical joint fittings (SNAP-TITE or equivalent) to be sleeved into the arched tunnel per plans.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Cut out and dispose section of 48” CMP in shored pit that conflicts with other bid items to be performed.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Install 30” ID pipe sections into the arched tunnel.
  • Quantity: 2  Unit: EA  Work Item: Install 10” HDPE into two 12” CMP drains, connect watertight to 30” HDPE pipe. Fill annulus with flowable non-shrink grout, water sealed at top.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install Bulkheads inside arched tunnel as needed to isolate HDPE pipe movement, retain void fill, and PVC pipes to fill & vent annulus.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install void fill material to fill the annulus between the arch tunnel and sleeved pipe.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install Manhole Stack to connect the 30” HDPE pipe sections sleeved into the arch tunnel and 48” CMP.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Backfill and compact Shored Pit from bottom to ground surface with excavated materials. Remove upper 2 ft. of shoring system and safety measures located below finished grade. Perform As-Built Survey of shoring system location.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Excavate, remove, and dispose last section of 48” CMP at storm drain exit, clean & flush out remaining debris inside CMP at exit section where present.
  • Quantity: 250  Unit: LF  Work Item: Furnish 30” ID AASHTO M326 Pipe Sections fitted with mechanical connected joints (SNAP-TITE or approved equivalent).
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Install 30” ID pipe sections into the 48” CMP per plans to outside of the end of the CMP.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install Bulkheads at ends of 48” CMP, at either side of the Church manhole.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install void fill material to fill the annulus between the 48” CMP and sleeved pipe.
  • Quantity: 1  Unit: LS  Work Item: Furnish and Install the last section of 30” HDPE pipe fitted with angled mechanical joint(s) to replace the CMP removed in Bid Item #15. Place pipe and compact bedding materials and backfill soils and slope around pipe section.
