General Project Description

The County of Monterey is soliciting proposals for bridge design services for the replacement of the Boronda Road Bridge over the Carmel River. The existing 78-year-old, one-lane steel structure (162' long, 12.7' wide) is structurally deficient, past its design life, and unable to safely permit simultaneous pedestrian and vehicle access. The project involves replacing the bridge with a new, approximately 30-feet wide, two-lane structure to improve safety, hydraulic conveyance, and meet current standards. The scope of work for the design services includes project management, preliminary engineering (roadway alignment, hydraulic analysis, geotechnical considerations, detour planning), comprehensive survey and mapping (aerial, ground, utility, right-of-way establishment), detailed geotechnical investigations and reporting, hydrologic and hydraulic reporting (scour, debris estimation, bank protection), post-construction stormwater design, preparation of 65% and 95% design submittals (plans, specifications, engineer's estimate), a final 100% Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) package, bid period consultation, extensive utility coordination, environmental support (NEPA/CEQA documentation and permit compliance), and construction support services.
