General Project Description

The North County Transit District (NCTD) is evaluating the deployment of a wireless grade-crossing system to enhance safety and warning-time consistency across several locations on the San Diego Subdivision, specifically at the Taylor Street crossing and nine other sites. This project involves implementing a proprietary wireless crossing solution that integrates with NCTD's I-ETMS Positive Train Control (PTC) environment. The scope includes creating and validating site-specific crossing logic, configuring wireless interface units, updating onboard software and PTC subdivision database elements, enhancing the Back Office Server (BOS) and Train Management and Dispatch System (TMDS), and upgrading the Lab Integrated Testing Environment (LITE). Comprehensive testing (including in-lab and field shadow-mode operations), documentation support (test procedures, concepts of operation, FRA PTC Safety Plan updates), FRA coordination, and training for NCTD personnel are also required. NCTD will lead all field construction activities, including procurement and installation of new equipment, communications, fiber work, crossing modifications, and any necessary civil or electrical upgrades, along with providing flagging protection and test trains.
