Petaluma City is seeking bids from qualified and interested contractors for the following project titled, FIRE STATION NO. 1 SEISMIC RETROFIT, RESTROOM SEPARATION, AND STATION IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, identified under Solicitation ID: C11202433. Work is to be performed near 11 English St room 4, Petaluma, CA 94952, USA in Sonoma County.
General Project Description
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The WORK includes but is not limited to improvements to the health, safety, and welfare of Fire Department staff by addressing the building’s seismic deficiencies, modernizing building systems, and enhancing the 24-hour work environment so the station can continue providing essential public safety services for decades to come. The project includes, but is not limited to, structural, architectural, and building systems upgrades to the existing two-story, approximately 10,034-square-foot historic fire station located at 198 E D Street in downtown Petaluma. The 1938 wood framed building will undergo both voluntary and mandatory seismic upgrades, including but not limited to foundation strengthening, shear wall and diaphragm upgrades, anchorage of non-structural elements, and roof diaphragm rehabilitation, in accordance with California Building Code standards. Building system upgrades include, but are not limited to, replacement of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems; installation of new fire alarm and automatic fire sprinkler systems; and integration of low-voltage and communications infrastructure. Interior improvements include, but are not limited to, voluntary and mandatory seismic upgrades, such as foundations, steel moment frames, shear walls, and apparatus bay concrete floor slab replacement; first- and second-floor restroom renovations to provide gender-neutral facilities; first-floor ADA access upgrades; first-floor kitchen renovation; second-floor sleeping quarters renovation; creation of a dedicated decontamination area and turnout gear storage; construction of a dedicated exercise and fitness room; and installation of automatic fire sprinkler and alarm systems. Exterior restoration includes, but is not limited to, replacement of the existing apparatus bay concrete apron, apparatus bay doors, and exterior windows with historically accurate replicas matching the original 1938 design; repair of plaster and masonry finishes; south building main entry storefront replacement for ADA compliance; relocation of the air compressor from the apparatus bay to the north side yard; addition of an access door from the apparatus bay to the north side yard; replacement and restoration of the 1970s addition exterior plaster; establishment of an exterior color palette including plaster color, metal trim color, window frame color, and apparatus bay door color; and installation of new exterior lighting and signage. Site improvements include, but are not limited to, construction of a concrete equipment pad, new trash enclosure, minor grading, and limited landscaping within the public right-of-way. All work shall preserve the building’s historic architectural features in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
