General Project Description

This project is part of the French Meadows Ecological Restoration Project, focusing on 2026 thinning activities within the Tahoe National Forest. The scope primarily involves thinning and removal of non-merchantable trees (9.9 inches DBH or less) using methods such as mastication, hand cutting with broadcast chipping, or mechanized thinning, to reduce wildfire risk and improve forest health. Specific treatment specifications include limits on stump height (max 6-12 inches), slash length (under 5 feet), and chip spread depth (under 6 inches, average under 4 inches), along with measures to protect leave trees and avoid watercourse channels. The project also encompasses meadow restoration activities. Contractors are required to comply with California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations for diesel fleets and adhere to a contractor fire plan.
