General Project Description

VTA aims to remanufacture its existing railroad tamper, upgrading it to a modernized model with enhanced functionality, performance, and compliance with modern safety and operational standards. The project’s key objectives include improving reliability, precision, and safety, extending equipment lifespan, and increasing operator competency through structured training. The scope involves a comprehensive overhaul including complete disassembly and inspection, structural modifications with chassis/frame repairs, installation of a torsion beam, extensive hydraulic and pneumatic system overhauls, engine and power system upgrades (to EPA Tier 4 standards), control system and electrical modernizations (PLC-based, sensors, remote diagnostics), and enhancements to tamping heads, alignment systems (laser/GPS-guided), and safety features (ROPS, emergency stops, lighting). The project also requires software calibration, system testing, comprehensive training for up to 15 operators and maintenance staff, technical documentation, and post-delivery support with a minimum 12-month warranty. The total project duration is estimated to be 20-24 weeks.
