General Project Description

This project involves the furnishing, installation, programming, and testing of a complete and fully functional Laser Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) to replace/upgrade existing systems on elevated guideways and tunnels for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). The system will detect human and other object intrusions without false alarms from light rail vehicles, and new equipment will include 3D laser intrusion detection and thermal imaging cameras with LIDAR image processing computer and software. Work includes demolition of existing LIDS components, installation of new LIDS cabinets, electrical and communication equipment, SCADA software integration, new fiber optic cable, wiring, grounding, and bonding, along with system testing, commissioning, and VTA staff training. The LIDS will be implemented at Diridon, Tasman East, and Hamilton locations along the VTA light rail system.
