General Project Description

This project involves a geotechnical evaluation and geologic hazards assessment to provide recommendations for the design and construction of new portable classrooms at the Westborough Recreation Center. The scope included reviewing existing literature, conducting site reconnaissance, obtaining drilling permits, performing subsurface exploration (drilling six borings), and laboratory testing of soil samples (density, moisture content, Atterberg limits, particle size distribution, shear strength, expansion index, R-value, and soil corrosivity). The objective is to assess subsurface conditions and geologic hazards to inform the design and construction of future site improvements, including earthwork (clearing, grubbing, excavation, fill placement), shallow foundations, retaining walls, and pavement/flatwork for the portable classrooms.
