Unofficial Notice of Invitation to Bid (NIB)
University of California, Berkeley is seeking bids from qualified and interested contractors for the following project titled, Request for Qualifications - Berkeley Clean Energy Campus - Electrified Heating and Cooling Plant (BCEC-EHCP) Special Testing and Inspection Services, identified under Solicitation ID: 12893A. Work is to be performed near Calfornia Hall, Sather Rd, Berkeley, CA 94709, USA in Alameda County.
General Project Description
Capital Projects at the University of California, Berkeley, is inviting statements of qualification for special inspection and testing services for the Berkeley Clean Energy Campus - Electrified Heating and Cooling Plant (BCEC-EHCP) project. The BCEC project aims to design and construct an electrified and renewable energy microgrid to significantly reduce campus carbon emissions. Phase 1 includes a new Electrified Heating and Cooling Plant (EHCP) at the North Field site to replace the existing fossil fuel cogeneration plant and steam system, providing heating and cooling through new underground hot and chilled water distribution piping to approximately 40 campus buildings, and constructing a thermal energy storage tank (TES). The project also involves converting buildings to utilize heating hot water, upgrading electrical infrastructure, enabling works, and decommissioning/modifying the existing cogeneration plant. The distribution system may include stream crossings and bridging structures. The overall goal is to have Phase 1 operational by 2030, and the project requires LEED Gold Certification. This Request for Qualifications specifically seeks consultants to provide special testing and inspection services to ensure compliance with contract documents and quality standards for the construction phases.
