General Project Description

This project involves the prequalification of Progressive Design Builders (PDB) for the Berkeley Clean Energy Campus Building Conversions program. The program aims to modernize the campus energy infrastructure by converting numerous energy-intensive campus buildings from a steam heating and cooling system to a new hydronic heating and cooling system. This includes connecting buildings to a new distribution piping network and potentially requiring electrical upgrades. The selected PDB(s) will be the prime contractor responsible for the design, development, installation, and commissioning of a complete mechanical conversion to low-temperature hot water (LTHW) for the designated buildings, with the exception of specific mechanical, plumbing, electrical load sizing, and controls sequence of operations. The project focuses on design-build mechanical conversions within occupied buildings.
