General Project Description
The University of California, Berkeley is seeking an Executive Architect to provide Programming, Design, and Construction-Administration services for the modernization of elevators in Griffiths and Stern Halls. Griffiths Hall, an eight-story dormitory, requires upgrade of its single overhead-traction elevator and the inclusion of a smoke containment system, scheduled for Summer 2027. Stern Hall, a four-story dormitory, has two overhead-traction elevators that need modernization, as only one is currently functional and neither has had significant work since the 1980s. The selected firm will work collaboratively to maintain budget and scope, perform value engineering, and expedite the schedule. The detailed scope includes reviewing existing information, conducting detailed site/field evaluations, developing comprehensive design information (MEP, life-safety), identifying accessibility-related scope, producing construction design documents, providing and updating cost estimates, and providing construction administration services.
