General Project Description

This project involves the comprehensive modernization and rehabilitation of the E.P. Foster Library's south building. The scope includes installing a new HVAC system, upgrading the electrical transformer and main switchboards, elevator modernization, reconfiguring the first-floor public restroom and library area, renovating second-floor restrooms and staff lounge, replacing windows and storefront systems, replacing flooring and lighting, re-roofing, and interior and exterior painting. Key preparatory work entails the removal and temporary storage of library collections, tech equipment, and furniture. Environmental remediation is also a significant part of the project, covering asbestos abatement, lead material/paint abatement, removal of miscellaneous hazardous materials (e.g., light fixture ballasts, fluorescent tubes), and ozone-depleting substances. The work involves various trades including concrete, structural steel, rough carpentry, thermal and moisture protection, openings (doors, windows, glazing, louvers), finishes (flooring, ceilings, painting), plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and communication systems (public address). Native American monitoring is required for ground-disturbing activities.
