Unofficial Notice of Invitation to Bid (NIB)

University of California San Diego is seeking bids from qualified and interested contractors for the following project titled, THE DEPOT, identified under Solicitation ID: 5718. Work is to be performed near 1100 Kettner Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101, USA in San Diego County.

General Project Description

This project involves the progressive design-build renovation of "The Depot," formerly the Museum of Contemporary Art building in downtown San Diego, which includes the historical Jacobs building (~1915) and the modern Copley building (2006). The scope encompasses code-required seismic retrofits for the Jacobs building to achieve a seismic rating of IV or better, addressing security, accessibility, and Title 24 deficiencies, minor accessibility work in restrooms, and creating flexible arts and performance spaces. Specific elements include constructing a mezzanine-level control room with a lift, installing audio-visual infrastructure, overhead lighting, and rigging in the Jacobs' north wing, building a welcome desk, grab-and-go café, and bar in the lobby, and installing rigging points and structural infrastructure in the south wing for exhibits. Additionally, exterior envelope repairs of the channel glass system on the Copley building and minimal interior work to convert a storage space into a staging area are required. Assessment studies for fire life safety, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems are necessary to confirm capacity for the proposed program, with utilities planning to support future expansion.
