General Project Description
This project involves the renovation of the Pines and Roots dining facility, located in the Stewart Commons building within the Muir College community at UC San Diego. The split-level, two-story building was constructed in 1970 and is classified as historic. The renovation encompasses approximately 17,100 gross square feet (GSF) and aims to enhance the campus dining experience by optimizing space, improving functionality and efficiency, and increasing indoor/outdoor seating. Modifications include a full interior renovation for Pines (2nd Floor) with back-of-house spaces, administration offices, five cooking platforms, a coffee station, and new kitchen equipment. Roots (1st Floor) will undergo an interior refresh including new paint, flooring, light fixtures, removal of existing kitchen equipment, and installation of a pizza oven. Exterior spaces will be expanded and enhanced with new furniture, landscaping, and refreshed balcony and patio areas, alongside site accessibility improvements, pedestrian circulation, entry/exit points, and upgraded exterior signage and wayfinding. Building upgrades include seismic upgrades throughout the facility and roof replacement. The project duration is 162 Construction Days.
