General Project Description

This project involves the construction and improvement of the Gage Canal Multi-Purpose Recreational Trail. The comprehensive scope includes extensive site preparation, trail construction using asphaltic concrete and stabilized decomposed granite, trenching, backfill, and compaction. Key environmental considerations include tree protection and root pruning, as well as the implementation of advanced irrigation systems controlled by solar smart controllers. The project also incorporates traffic striping, pavement markings, installation of various signs (roadside, street name, and High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk - HAWK), and setting up comprehensive electrical systems, including solar-powered LED lights and traffic signals. Community amenities feature play equipment, site furnishings like bike racks, drinking fountains, benches, trash receptacles, and precast concrete planters, alongside interpretive signage to enhance the recreational experience. Additional work includes hydroseeding, trailhead and gateway improvements, and metal fabrication for items such as welded wire mesh fencing and vehicular swing gates. The project requires significant coordination with the City's Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department, Public Utilities Department, Fire Department, and the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC), and is funded by California State Natural Resource Agency Urban Greening Grant programs.
