General Project Description

The project encompasses the installation of a new queue cutter traffic signal at the Bascom Avenue rail crossing. This includes modifying existing median islands, constructing new concrete islands, new ADA compliant curb ramps, and enhancing crosswalks. The scope also covers pavement treatment, general pavement markings, and signage. A critical component is the integration, timing, and testing of a railroad preemption system. Comprehensive civil engineering work is involved, including sawcutting, grinding asphalt concrete, excavation, backfilling, sidewalk and curb/gutter installation and removal, landscaping, irrigation crossovers, utility box adjustments, and protection of existing utilities. Traffic control devices and a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) are required throughout construction, along with specific provisions for handling asbestos and hazardous substances.
